A Little Night Mystery

At first, I thought I was going mad.

I would get up in the morning to find that someone had left a teaspoon on the bench, or the lid of the toilet up.

I mean, I live alone. If you don’t count the dog and the cat. And I know for a fact that they don’t drink coffee. Or use the toilet. More’s the pity. Oh, and I definitely do not sleepwalk either, before you ask.

After a few weeks, food started going missing. We’re not talking about legs of lamb here. Just small, munchable items like my sweet chili crisps, and jelly beans. I began finding choc chip cookie crumbs on my computer desk.

Speaking of my computer, the internet usage was higher than it should have been.

Eventually, I came up with a plan. I went to Kmart and bought a couple of cheap cameras. One was installed in the kitchen, the other in the hall. The next morning, I had the most amazing answer to the mysterious goings-on.

I could not believe what I was seeing. Yet there was the proof on the screen. It was my shadow. She had been entertaining herself at night while I slept.

The two of us sat down and had a long talk about her behaviour. Now she washes up after herself and buys her own jelly beans. As for the internet, we now share the bill between us.
